SUMMARY:C.O.P.S. Extended Family Weekend
DESCRIPTION:C.O.P.S. Extended Family Weekend is planned for the surviving extended family members and their spouse/domestic partner* (21 years or older) of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty\, as determined by C.O.P.S. criteria. Eligible family members include: grandparents\, aunts\, uncles\, nieces\, nephews\, cousins and in-laws. Other relatives and friends are not eligible to attend.\n\n *Domestic Partner is defined as a long term committed legal or interpersonal relationship between two individuals who live together and share a common domestic life (i.e.\, not just a boy/girlfriend).\n\n\nAfter the death of an officer\, extended family members often find ways to support those closest to the officer by setting their feelings aside. C.O.P.S. Extended Family Weekend creates a safe space for these family members to gather and process their grief in an environment that is removed from the stresses of everyday life.\nThis weekend offers a trusting atmosphere where participants can engage in both relaxing and challenging activities. By attending the Suicide Survivors Fall Weekend you will be surrounded by other survivors who truly understand how you feel. You will gain resources and coping strategies to help you navigate life after your suicide loss. \nSuicide Survivors Fall Weekend provides a safe and confidential environment for survivors who will engage in group sessions led by licensed mental health professionals who are experienced in law enforcement suicide. Couples as well as single parents are encouraged to attend.  Other relatives and friends are not eligible to attend.\nSuffering the loss of a child is the most unimaginable heartbreak for any parent\, particularly when it occurs suddenly in the line of duty. In the aftermath\, grieving parents not only face their sorrow but also strive to support their family members through this painful grief.\nAt C.O.P.S. Parents Weekend\, licensed mental health professionals are available to guide you through group sessions that address both individual and family grief. You will also find support in connecting with other parents who share similar experiences and can truly relate to your loss. Support sessions are coupled with wellness activities\, giving you the chance to challenge yourself\, connect with others\, and reflect. Surviving to Thriving Conference\nNovember 5th – 8th\, 2026 \nSheraton San Diego Resort \n \nThis conference is for survivors and co-workers of fallen officers and supporters of C.O.P.S. Please note that there will be no Kids Program or Daycare for children under the age of 15.\nFor four decades\, the C.O.P.S. mission of “Rebuilding Shattered Lives” has brought a source of connection and support for survivors. By supporting our mission’s goals\, we are proud to announce the inaugural Surviving to Thriving Conference. The weekend will mark a significant milestone as it will bring all survivorships together for the first time. We are planning a balanced mix of informative sessions and FUN activities for survivors to connect\, share experiences\, and find comfort in a supportive community. Whether you feel like you’re just surviving or thriving\, this conference promises to be an uplifting and empowering event\, fostering personal growth\, resilience\, and the unbreakable bonds of survivorship.\nNOTE: If a survivor chooses to attend this conference in place of their survivor specific weekend or camp\, their registration fee will be waived and they will be eligible to have the cost of their hotel room for up to 3 nights reimbursed by National C.O.P.S. In order to be eligible\, survivors must submit their hotel receipt to National C.O.P.S. within 30 days of the conference and attend all planned sessions and activities.
